To be honest you could do much worse than look out for a cheap Navara D22 then get the modifications done to the engine (new 'lead' shell bearings, rod bolts). I pickled mine up for £2500.00, 02 plate with 25k milleage. The upgrade cost about £400, but it's a good vehicle, comfortable (i'm over 6'4") and drives well with a ton in the back.

I know mate I'm just looking at a few grand on something to drag a little chipper about and expect it to get scratched to bits but keep going. We will alsouse it for pricing etc we fancied navara hilux or whatever but don't want to turn up with a pimp mobile and look like we make too much money cos we don't at all haha

Hi Lorry,

Might be worth having alook at kevin8859 items - Get great deals on Cars, Motorcycles Vehicles items on eBay UK!

He is just at Consett so nice and handy for you. Ex water board Ranger extra cab looks handy.

yup... land rovers are fashion statements,,,, that's why the british army has used them for decades,,,

although they do say " 95% of land rovers ever made are still on the road,,,,, the other 5% reached their destination "

Mint Ady, I'll be nicking that one.

Landys are great off-road (probably because most stick off-road tyres on them), but I've only used doggy old Defenders, 110's and 130's, and the crap build quality of the door seals, locks, wipers and heaters would put me off buying one. I'm sure the Discos would be a lot better in this respect.

Just wondering if you guys have any advice on any pickups I have a budget of around £4000.

I was thinking about a Nissan Navara but heard the engines blow up easily

something like in the link below

2004 NISSAN D22 2.5 DI 4X4 NAVARA SILVER on eBay (end time 28-Nov-10 19:19:15 GMT)

Or any advice on any other pickups would be great

Thanks Scott

Depends what you are going to use it for. What about a Discovery Commercial, fairly roomy in the back, more secure than a pick up even with a canopy and legendary off road ability and build quality (that last bit was a bit tongue in cheek!!).

I am in the same position as yourself and have done oodles of research and have come to the conclusion:

L200s are expensive to repair, have short service intervals, might be slow or fast

Navarras blow engines, bearings go etc:thumbdown:

Hi Luxs can last and last but will cost a bit to keep them going and fall apart if you subject then to the same sort of abuse Land Rovers take day in day out:001_rolleyes:

Land Rovers are off road vehicles as they are usually off the road getting fixed:biggrin:

Only bad thing I have heard about Ford Rangers is the clutches do not last too long

If you want a pick up remember nothing is secure unless you put a canopy on, in which case it may be cheaper going for a van.

After having four wheel drive for 23 years I would not be without it so I am considering Discovery or Ranger.

l200s new and old are far from gutless there great trucks never had a promblem

check the hp and torque figures and they will say otherwise. My old l200 with standard lump was a joke now has turbo and intercooled shogun lump in it and it's ok.The new ones are horrid had more go in a metro.

Disco's are nice not overly grunty tho.Horses for courses tho ain't it.

Fourtraks as mentioned are cracking little motors.
