no worries, my origional post didnt come across to well. a couple of times i have been to look at jobs and the customer has asked for advice on a tree and how i would do the job, then they have attempted the job themselves. thats why i responded like i did. sorry everybody.

Just checked back tonight after being away today. Good to see we're all playing nice

 

I was down today taking some wee sapplings down and cutting up some stuff that was on the ground. I had a couple of guys come and give me a quote for taking some bigger stuff down and so they're going to sort that one out at the same time. I appreciate all your comments so thanks for giving me your thoughts and advice.

Sorry guys, came in a bit late on this thread but for what it's worth; A fella recently tried to fell a Willow (about the same size as the tree in the pic I think) which wasn't even hung up and nearly killed himself when it went wrong and barber chaired back and landed on him. Hung up trees and those on a lean can throw up several different scenarios as to what may go wrong so if you don't have the experience I wouldn't attempt it. It only takes one wrong cut, one wrong move etc for something really bad to happen. Get someone with the knowledge to do it and then get yourself on a couple of courses to learn how to deal with this type of thing safely. We all want to go home to the family at the end of the day and for the sake of saving a few quid is it worth risking your neck?
