Though re-iterating whats already been said, here's another idea. Why not ask for a copy of the consent letter to carry on site with you, not for your benefit but as proof to enquiring members of the public that everything is being done by the book. I'd point out to him that there are indeed hefty fines handed out for blatant transgressions of the planning laws, and you are looking out for his best interests.

Its not always what you say, but the way its said.

You obviously have access to the internet, why not check for your self with the local authority if permission has been granted for work.

 

Does your employer not do risk assessments for the work, these should cover TPO's C/A's.

 

Are you the only employee, what do the other lads say about it?.

 

I am also a very arrogant and awkward boss and more! but I would not expect anyone to do anything unsafe or illegal.
