Surprisingly small root plate on that one, due to its sheltered location maybe?

 

Suspect your observation is true Kev.

 

It's relatively small, but the pictures are a little deceptive.

I should have perhaps put some scale in the shots.

 

 

Trouble with working weekends on me tod, there's no handy arb accessories to use as scale ! :biggrin:

Some big grandis taken out over a access road, again scale is hard to see but the bottom stem is about 20" at stump, impressive how it's lifted the smaller clean up into the air.

 

 

 

Love how roots are so interconnected in forests.

Fir that has both the very rare Pulveroboletus (Buchwaldoboletus) lignicola and the more common Phaeolus schweinitzii
