A snapping Chain

When I have had chains snap, they tend to just sit in the cut in the timber they were cutting at the time they snaped.

nearly all my 020 chains snap. I only ever use my 020 up a tree, and because of this they rarely need sharpening. i'll typically get half way down a chain at which point it snaps due to the amount of use its had(typically 6 months daily use)

 

6 months for half a chain!

 

Is that with the engine running.

I used to make my own chains of the reel and the snapping was quite a regular occurrence, really not very exciting just frustrating having to re join them.

had them snap on the 200 a few times also been wipped a couple of times with the 44's chain when its snapped, no injury though.

Snapped one the other week it just hit the chain catcher and dropped off

I had one snap while topping a lemonwood hedge, saw at face level, chain flew off the tip never to be seen again, had a thought for a second that it could have hit me in the face, then remembered i don't have really long bendy arms

If you want to snap chains regularly use that cheap engine oil from wilkinsons or asda,i've had them go after a week from new,it don't lubricate or stick,wouldn't want to put it in a car engine

Isn't engine oil too thin? ( and nasty to environment )

I was told by trainer that if necessary veg oil is ok as a chain lubricant.

Have seen it used at a college (engine oil) would of thought it was to thick more like. bio oil is just like pee extremley thin. Think it has something to with veg oil but cant remeber exactley

Veg oil goes sticky if its used, gunks everything up
