but you must have been one cos you posted!!!!!!!

To be honest, I was inside some conifer today and was struggling to see my groundy, the only thing of him I could see was his orange helmet moving about.

So the best helmet to buy would be one of any colour but have strobes fitted to the top and sides.

What paints are ok to use on the vertex?

Good question!

According to Petzl, you really shouldnt paint them as the chemicals in the paint may react with the plastic and cause premature weakening.

Take it to a sports or motorcycle helmet painter and they will tell you differently.

Sherrill sell custom painted vertex, at a price, so they must be satisfied as to the results.

O.k black does look cool, but its going to get hotter in the summer, and as Pete points out its harder to spot on the ground.

Its a real bug bear for me, as most groundies i've worked with where dark subdued colours and a black helmet, and I always like to know where people are when they work under me.

I'd vote white its the most sensible colour, easy to see and does'nt absorb heat, but I just bought a new orange one.

I wondered if the black helmet might absorb more UV light than other colours - thus shortening it's life?!
