Ic trees this is my argument. They wouldn't issue labourers cards for me in September, another lad tried to get his last month got told the same had to do Rolo course. Last week groundie got white card as a tractor driver for £17.50 with basic touch screen test, he's never driven a tractor in his life.

When we turned up with Rolo cards to one site they wouldn't let us on as they don't recognise it. But in thirteen years I've only been asked for nptc a handful of times.

I also have a black managers card which says landscape and arb manager.

I have the blue Liss card which lists all my nptc.

Some site are asking more info on the cards.

I was on site a while back and they wouldn't let dome of the guys on with just a basic card.

Unfortunately some construction companies are quiet strict on policy so even nptc cards it wasn't enough

That's what we are using black manager cards blue skilled operative and cpcs for machines. Got told on a site run by a large national builder the other day that we are not allowed to use a chainsaw, despite them calling us in to cut down multiple trees.

Did mine the other week, basic green card, just been given copy of my pass certificate to carry so far, boss has said I've got to go do the ROLO one at some point, some firms are uber strict on paperwork and others not so much, one building firm made me fill out a breaking ground ticket, a puwer inspection ticket and god knows what else before I could do some stump grinding :001_rolleyes:

I was going to get one but gave up when they couldn't confirm what colour card we needed.

We have worked on loads of sites where they wanted CSCS, but also wanted a tree removing yesterday.

We removed the tree.

A bit like 'we pay in 180 days'.

Not if you want the tree removing today, you don't.

Idiots.

I was an engineer for McAlpines years ago, and the current carry-on makes me glad I left when I did.

Don't think this is rubbish. Tried to get three of our guys on basic operatives green cards. But can't take the standard touch screen test without a recognised NVQ level 2. Without this you have to do a training day through Rolo as landscaping/ tree surgery is no longer listed on the CSCS trades. Just another way of making you dole out.

Not me ("Got a CSCS card") but thankfully I don't need one to get in the office.

Joking apart, this whole situation is something of a conundrum to me (even tho I'm a ROLO trainer these days..."should I give you my last one?")

The situation is further exacerbated by the huge variation in construction companies, site managers, and their requirements...and understanding. However there does seem, generally, to be a shift in that they require to see CSCS/LISS (Landscape Industry Sector Scheme, of which we are part) and, often, NPTC cards...if they know/understand what they are.

My 'learn-ED' colleague Simon Cox, is our guru here so I will ask him to post back on the situation.

In the meantime, don't blow a gasket :confused1:

Cheers..

Gotta agree with the above quoted post, it's now a noightmare. If you tell em yer just a labourer ya moight get a basic card but mention tree works and ROLO/LISS etc comes into it. Very clever of whoever came up with all of these 'requirements' as they are hoops we will all hafta jump thru at quite a personal financial cost. If they cud simplify it somewhat it moight make it more bearable !
