For a tree surgeon to trade legally, he should...

just wanting to create a check list.

was wondering what was mandatory and what was desirable?

Be twice the price of everyone else?

All you'll need is insurance to trade legally I'd imagine.

The curveball is for that insurance to actually pay out when the poo hits the fan, you're going to need to do everything under 'industry best practice.' Which means doing everything by the (often ridiculous) book. As we all know, insurance compaines will look for any discrepancy if it means they don't have to pay out.

Legally, nothing!

A chainsaw maybe?

Just get on with it. If you employ poeple things change, but the police won't be knocking on your door, and the HSE won't bother until you hurt someone.

There are some acts of law that affect this work, insurance is definatly not one of them. You don't have to have insurance to do tree work.

You may well get a tap on your shoulder from HSE if you are working at height without adequate rescue provision, accident or not.

Poss one of the only things they will spot check.
