Yes I would bang a new clutch in there aswell,also new thrust race bearing.

SOME vehicles can have a solid mass conversion done while you are in there,I know they do them for tranies and landrover td5's,and thbe parts are cheaper.

I think the downside of this conversion is a less refined cabin space environment,ie more noise,as the dual mass reduces engine vibes transmitted back through the vehicle.

If it were me, I would get some legal advice (so I would know my rights in every detail) then go see go see the guy.

 

As has been said, you will be entitled to some recompense.

 

I seem to recall that you can demand a refund, but if you allow them repair it once, you have to keep it and allow them to fix it no mater how many attempts it takes, but I'm not sure, so I would take legal advice before your next move.

Trouble is I travelled over 300 miles to buy the car (Devon is the most expensive county in the UK for cars i.e. R reg Astras for £2500) in Yorkshire (flew to Manchester, train to Selby) so returning it = a major bane. Am going to 'phone the main dealer who know the car well and pick their brains and also speak to a few specialists etc. It is possible that an uprated version is made by Quaife; the one in my 3.0 Tid is renowned for bother. Just my luck! I drove the car earlier and imo it's getting worse; have read enough on this problem now to be as sure as sure that the DMF is the culprit. Hope I can just source the new one (changing to solid tempting but not good for the box) and phone a friend to fit it! I hope it doesn't have to be matched to the engine for balance etc... groan...

i had a DMF problem on my old mondeo estate diesel, it started off with the starter motor going funny, then all the weird vibrations as you put it... the cost of the flywheel wasn't that much but the labour to fix it was... so i no this won't help but i sold the car and got a new one..!!

I had trouble with a DMF on a focus TDCI,had it at the stealers twice under warranty and they blagged me with injector probs etc.Had my usual garage look at it (by which time it was out of warranty) new DMF,clutch,bearing etc.......800 quid.....ouch!

Sad thing is ford knew about DMF probs with TDCI......not a whisper to me though....car sold will never set foot in that ford STEALER again.
