Top Handled saws.

I'm a bit more fussy when it comes to employers using things inappropriately. It would be a case of, if I injure myself, theres only me to blame. If one of the groundies injure themselves, I'm still to blame.

We are all booked in for CS47 (use of chainsaw from a MEWP) next month. I personally don’t want one, but my 'employer' the local authority has a duty of care towards its employees and has decided to buy one. I love the challenge of climbing but at the end of the day, I just want to get home after work and be able to see my kids. If a MEWP makes my work safer, so be it.

 

If you don’t want top handled chainsaws banned then it’s up to us to portray a professional image and keep the accident rates low!

MEWP's cant replace climbing by rope and harness, due to cost and access. at the end of the day some jobs are more dangerous then others and if it was that dangerous to use as saw one hand who come we are all doing it on a daily basis and are still here to talk about it. i heard the reason for the "no one handed" was because it used to be marketed as a one handed chainsaw and all the knobs started having accidents. using a saw at face height or above is more dangerous then using one handed.

If I was a council employee I would want to use a MEWP - you might aswell, it doesn't matter to you that the job will take longer and cost more - you'll just have an easier day at work for the same money!

well if they get their way sooner or later climbing itself will be outlawed in favour of mewps and there would be no need for a top handled saw anyway

they have been saying this for years though...dont think its gonna happen...more training and aprenticship might stop the folly,AND STOP SELLING YOUR OLD TOP HANDLE SAWS ON EBAY GUYS!!

I cant see stihl or husky allowing all the money that they have poured into R&D on these products to be swept aside

how will they phase it in Or they will have to compensate all owners totasl outcry from the business community

tophandles are as safe as ground saws its down to the operator using them, saws dont cause accidents people do

Damn right, poor Mr Dennison proved that.......Though I fitted a Silky Hiauchi into a handsaw handle wich out performs the O20T on 4"< branches ! Though my experience of Sthil/Husq is .....where did that R&D money go ? The old 20 stilh weren't bettered ( a batch of 20x 200T in 2006 -half of them **** !) Just be careful up there !
