Has the world gone mad ??

Working on some trees roadside but over a tall wall. Came across a bunch of keys, not been there long and the car key fob that was with them was still working, quite a bunch of keys and would imagine the Chrysler key fob alone would be some £200 to replace and the inconvenience of busting or changing all the other locks would be a nightmare or cost a fortune

Luckily the keys had an insurance "key recovery" fob on them with an 0845 number to ring and a £10 reward

After 15 minutes on the phone trying to pick the right option to speak to a human I eventually went for the new insurance option to get anywhere.

I expalined I had found these keys and wanted to get them back to the owner asap.

You have to take them to a Halifax bank or Bank of scotland bank, they said.

Haven't got time love, I work 7 days a week I explained.

There's a £10 reward for the inconvenience of taking them in she said.

Not interested in £10, I earn £60 per hour so it would cost me to take them in, cant I give you my details so you can pass them on to the owner who can then collect them off me, if you tell them straight away I am probably just round the corner from whoever owns them or they can contact me anytime.

We cant do that for security reasons she eplained.

I'm not bothered about you passing my details on love, dont worry about me !!

No we still cant do it.

There must be a way of you telling them or getting the keys back to them using my details love, I'm trying to save you some money and your client some inconvenience.

Sorry we cant take your details and pass them on you will have to hand them into a bank or police station.

Stick it then love, tell you what I'll just throw them back in the hedge where I found them then !!!

Sorry we couldn't be of any help she replied !!!! :confused1:

I am struggling to comprehend the mentality of these people

Know exactly how you feel Dean.

I had to jump through loads of security hoops to prove that I was who I said I was so I could pay off my own credit card bill.

I asked if they often got fraudsters kindly paying off other peoples credit cards for them?

Whats next? You won't be allowed to smoke in pubs at this rate!

That's crap and I'll remember to ask my keys insurer what their take is on it. Looking at it the other way round though it's good cover to have: I claimed all but £27 of a £268 bill last year when I lost mine.

I'd guess the chances are that the owner of the bunch you found had already claimed so being cynical - why should the insurance co. go to any effort now?

Or perhaps they were just embarrassed at insuring for a Chrysler.

Now now :laugh1:

I'll hand them into the bank anyway, I was just really peed off that I could have saved the owner a load of hassle.

The best thing to put on a bunch of keys is a mobile number, I would have phoned it straight away or am I being a bit niave

The theives will have probably known the owners details anyway :001_smile:
