When you did your tree climbing/ aerial rescue course were you not taught the importance of understanding the manufacturer's guidance?

You could make something completely idiot proof. The universe would just create a better idiot.

ISC don't offer any guidance and if they did, it's not going to be in the bag with it when an employee is issued it (without the swivel) and told to go and climb a tree and not complain.

I've never done a tree climbing course btw. My mother held me by the heel and dipped me in a river, which endowed me with all the strength and wisdom I've ever needed.

I do take your point on nothing being truly idiot proof. But you strive to make stuff as idiot proof as possible and ISC have not strived enough.

I like everything simple and idiot proof!!!! I feel uncomfortable even if I change my rope color  I needed 3 monts climbing to get use to new harness and I will not change it to different model anymore , plus I believe nothing is more safe as ropes ,carabiners and pulleys , tested by generations cheap, compact  and if you pair rope, prussik and hitch correctly , it works very well! I can set up all my gear with closed ayes, I know wich carabiner is used for what and how each of them feel in my hand I reach harness attachment points automatically, never miss them , so what I’m saying innovations is good …. But consistency and technique is much better !!!! You must stick to same gear to be very competitive and safe!  Few days ago I got new silkysaw same model but my old one hade worn handle, and was sitting in my hand like I born with it, so after few hours I replaced handle , cause new one keep taken my attention and lower my focus ! What about this new thing it’s simply too bulky….. it is faken mammoth with all those small pins sliding cheeks little springs and so on just ….. gimmick ,however New Gen baby’s will like it….. its fancy !

I've never had a Unicender in my hand but I believe they have a set of C shapes bit like this to make it midline attachable - so it's possible to not have this break, Petzl just didn't manage it.

The material on the unicender is a lot thicker and more than likely stronger than the zig zaggy bits on this new device.

Mick is all in then.

I have little interest in the device itself, but I am interested in the marketing and how, or how it doesn’t gain traction with the small niche community that is tree climbers.

You have to admire these companies that spend years doing R&D on these things for not much return except the prestige of manufacturing the “go to”

My young trainee climber is reasonably interested and excited, he uses my ZZ plus when he uses a device.

If he can be persuaded to part with his hard earned in the coming months, they’ve done well.
