Im a dead eye guy. For the same reason you state.

Woopies and loopies are crap.

Ultra slings are good, but obviously no adjustment, usually pockets arent too far apart so doesnt matter much.

POW are abit crap also. Fixed bollard unless its a long walk to the tree, then its probably wraps around the trunk with manky 3 strand.

Floating bollards will always have a bit of slop in them. There's no way anyone can pretension a board against a lump of heavy being negative rigged. Doesn't matter is it's Captain America or a malnourished anarchist such as yourself.

Only way to circumnavigate the fact is with a fixed board.

Just the opinion of an equally sexually frustrated fellow arb.

Despite being (typically) slightly snide with it, Joe’s the only one to understand and answer the question so far. Thank you, Joe. You’re a beacon of light in the dark. I hope normal service in your household is quickly restored.

I’m not asking about overall portawrap floppiness. I’m asking about the choke staying low and snug and whether the fancy slings are any better than deadeyes for that. Would welcome further input on that subject.

If Joe is the only one to understand the question, maybe the question is the problem.

Gotcha.

In my experience whoopies are a faff to set the porty up snugly on the tree as they're almost impossible to adjust tighter when they're on the base of the tree. You've really got to set the length, offer it up and if it's too tight/loose, take it off, adjust and try again.

Ultra slings are no better as there's no fine adjustment, you just get to use the pocket that fits best.

I don't think you can get better than a cow hitch for quickly tying a porty on snugly. Other hitches are available but i don't feel like a timber hitch gets as much slack out.

you could still fit a sling of some sort as a fail safe underneath.
Rigging has levels.

level 1 is using the end of your own rope to drift an end down.

Level 10 is a heavy negative rigging with big rope and a strapped on  Bollard and rings/pulleys on top.

This combo I’d put at around 5 to 6
