Looked at AN MS251 and noticed only one stud holding the side casing on. On line and old Stihl catalogues going back to 2006 and always showing 2 studs.

Looked genuine otherwise, but could it be a copy.....or was it a one off model in a certain year 🤔

 

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

251 are single stud, had a few and they've all been single stud and think that was back in 2003

1 stud seems something re- designed more shit on purpose to make then less good that the 2 stud norm-  more likely to break..?

I have one stud and two stud saws and neither have broken in all the years I've been using them. If you don't handle them like a gorilla and just use the necessary force to tighten them there is no problem.

Its worth noting on these machines that have a plastic crankcase dont overtighten the bolt, it can pull the stud out of the crankcase. Ive seen it happen on quite a few of the little echo 2511's and a couple of the  170/171 stihls.
