Ditto. Detest it with every ounce of my being. Truly truly HATE it. Or what it's become anyway. Total waste of time and resources. Looking forward to arranging with family one year soon where I opt out completely. Means I'll need to get to a desert island sometime in the autumn. I don't want to hear, see, smell or feel anything to do with it.

Yes, just opt out. I see people rage over mothers day, fathers day, valentines day and easter and just think to myself, why get so angry and upset. Let others enjoy those times if they wish to. If I didnt want to get involved over the Christmas period im sure that my friends and family would understand.

Er, fairly sure they are still called Christmas presents.

Er, all the adverts on tv running up to Christmas refer to it as " gifting "  tis the season for gifting etc etc .Perhaps you have not noticed . Could it be an Americanism ?

We decided 2 years ago not to send or deliver cards . The ££ we spent on cards now goes to some animal charities . Monkey world and the dogs trust this year .

Don't watch the telly and you won't have that problem, I suggest replacing it with three young children and a barny with the wife, good times!

all the farm work including walking around checking live stock.

Now those are happy memories for me, been a long time but I'd happily spend the festive period doing that again.

Nobody is as truly grateful with their gift on Christmas morning as cattle and sheep are!

I’m a massive Christmas fan, love pretty much all of it.

BUT the consumerism thing is beyond a joke.

Luckily both our families are pretty sensible.

Our kids get nice stuff, but not ridiculous.

They appreciate what they get.

Needless plastic crap isn’t welcome.

For a few years now the adults buy for one other person, £100 value, and you pretty much tell each other what you want.

I got a Gransfors splitting maul one year, now there’s a present!

It saves running around fretting what to get the mother in law etc., then invariably buying some crap for the sake of it.

MIL is Dutch, so we have kids stockings first thing, dog walk, boozy lunch etc. then main presents in the evening, which keeps the anticipation up for the kids and works for us.

That I get . Sounds great to me . Pretty much what we had . Catherine ( my wife ) wanted a new winter rug for her horse so I got her that .  She got me Danny Cares book " everything happens for a reason " .  Charlotte my daughter needed a new phone as her I phone 11 would not charge any more . I got here a new 13 on a sim only deal . Jack my son wanted posh smellies so we got him some and his girlfriend Chloe wanted a particular posh hoodie so we got her that . Job done . The dinner was superb . Turky crown and a venison fillet . Roast spuds and parsnips etc etc .
