Drove down to the south of Norway on Friday.  Been chatting to a breeder for over a year and finally there was a pup for us.  6.5 hours drive home and she was pretty good in the cage.

There was a bit of barking the first night, last night she slept through without sound but I did leave the cage open but she didn’t leave it.  Just seems to whine when the door is locked.  I’ll be working on that the next few days.

Meet Kira, 9 weeks old Jämthund, she is settling in to her new surrounding quite nicely.

She is already sitting on command and walking pretty well on a leash.  Gonna do plenty of puppy training over the next few weeks and then in April, hopefully do a blood trail course with her.

What a beauty Rich! Looks a confident wee pup.

As a breed they are renowned for being fearless, hence why they are used for hunting and guarding.

We are just trying to make her feel settled and giving her space when she wants it.  Must be a bit of trauma getting pulled away from mama and sisters like that.

She has two older brothers now LOL.

I get the feeling Kira is going to do just fine with her new brothers!

Great video, thanks.

Edit. Never heard of Jamthund, just checked, Giant Dog. Gonna need a bigger cage!

About the size of a decent Lab but a bit smaller than a German Shep, bit like a Husky on ‘roids.

Something like this when fully grown.

One of the oldest Scandinavian breeds but not many of them about.  A friend has Kira’s aunti and a lady who lived over the back has a 7 yo bitch.  They can be very calm and stoic in the home and not easily ruffled, yet great as a hunting dog.

Hence the name, Jamthund or Swedish Moose dog.  Not to be mistaken with the smaller Norwegian Moose Dog.
