🚨 Big tax changes for double-cab pick-ups are coming! 🚨 From April 2025, HMRC will classify double...

Good summary of a stupid vindictive sledgehammer type solution to a problem very much in Labours head  that will undoubtedly not bring in anywhere near what they expect. Shame for those who actually do use them as tools.

How many people do use them as tools when a single or king-cab would be a more effective 'tool'? In most industries I work with, people will rock up to the depot get in a van and a welfare van (might) will accompany them. Bigger firms will be able to cover the extra expense. I spend a lot of time on the road and 9/10 double cab pickups I see haven't seen any work.

It looks like there'll be a few cheap ones in the coming months: image.thumb.png.f6e1f71fff0d2c348e7e68f6d0d6ca17.png

The politics of envy eh Mark, god forbid a working guy gets to drive a half decent motor for work. I don’t know where you are looking mark because 9 out of 10 where I live are working for a living big time. My 3.2 Ranger on a 68 plate has done 107k a hell of a lot of that has been towing up to 3500kg, I’ve used mine on numerous occasions during the winter to get out and about when a car or van would have been useless
Please give me an alternative that will go off road with 4x4 tow 3500kg  and carry a ton with a half decent level of comfort. At 6ft5 i remember how shit the old two seat hilux was. End of day it’s literally using a sledgehammer to crack an egg, for those who need them labour will screw them to the ground, others will end up with two vehicles instead of one, hardly an ideal choice. Few pics to prove mine ain’t a show pony. The only good thing to come out of this is the successive vindictive incompetent totally damaging decisions in particular those effecting self employed and small businesses will hopefully be enough to remind people how shite Labour were and still are for another good spell come the election, if there’s anything left by then.

Fair enough, but do you really need two back seats to go milling?

I get the height issue, I suppose that the back seat behind you would be pretty much redundant anyway, which negates the need for a double cab. I didn't buy a defender because I'm too big to use one for fun.

Sometimes you have to compromise. I need to pay more for a decent sleeping bag or hammock because I'm tall, that's the perks of being tall.

None of the photos (even the one with the different truck) explain why you need a double cab. I understand why you might want one but your business doesn't seem to need one, if it did then you would factor the increase in costs into the job and crack on.

Christ mark how can you even try and defend this shit. I don’t want it for fun it’s there to work. And no the back seats are still usable even with the drivers seat fully back. Cost of a sleeping bag doesn’t add up to 12-15k. If I want to carry more than one guy to work then I’m goosed Mark and quite frankly I’d rather keep expensive kit inside alarmed than in a pick up bed. Now it’s another probably unsuitable vehicle required 🤷‍♂️hardly an excercise in environmental or financial sense.

I know a dive company owner with 2 rangers who tows ifor BV 126 trailers with a dive spread built in often as not requiring the 4x4 capability , hse legal dive team limit is 5men his are ideal, he’s looking at a massive hit financially or having to run a totally different set up, I often take two with me when cutting. God forbid I use it to pick up my family occasionally or when a van or car is just not  feasible due to weather and 4x4 is required which in rural Aberdeenshire is a lot more than you might think every winter. It’s ****************ing labour greed mark screwing the self employed small business owners etc yet again, and either indirectly or worse still consciously destroying a very good part of the of the motor vehicle sector. Sadly the likes of yourself asking “ do you need two back seats to go milling “  are indicative of how them fools think.
Ps

The back seats when I’m milling on my own mark are toppers with kit as is the bed with blades etc

Why can't you factor the expense of the extra two seats in your pricing? I have mates who work offshore on turbines, there is tons of money to be earned in specialist services.

Up in rural Aberdeenshire you may be an exception, but I stand by the fact that 9/10  double cabs I see on the roads in England have seen next to no work.

😳🤷‍♂️Mark what the hell has your mates on turbines  got to do with anything, how the **************** do you price in two more seats ?? People are being squeezed more and more day by day with Labour and its lunatic ideology driving the cost of everything up and up, there’s only so much you can charge. It’s a bloody awful greed driven policy that will do far more bad than good. ****************ing Labour are a government of absolute incompetents,  not a scrap of interest in helping self employed or business owners.

This thread seems to be going the way of many others before it ..........

I see far too many double cab pickups clogging up urban roads and car parks. Pretty sure most of them would be just as effective as "tools" if they were vans. I know our roads can be shite but come on; you don't need 4x4 to do the school run/shopping/go to the gym. They're the kind of blokes that the greed driven policy should be targeting, (and the Chelsea Tractor drivers for that matter), rather than those who genuinely need them.

It's the super rich (>£1,000,000.00 in money) who are driving the cost of everything up. If you need something for a business it has to be factored in, if you can't factor it in then your business needs a rethink. Spit your dummy out at the universe if you want, but it's on you to sort it out.
