Is pump just running slow or normal speed, 

There is a valve that makes them drop slow, some people remove it to make body drop quicker. No idea if it's powered, so when tipping it opens. 

Could just be bad earth.

Update.

Checked leads and terminals as best I could, nothing obvious.

Tried to tip with 2 lads lifting, no way.

Eventually got the body up with the loader, but there was no pressure in the ram at all.

The body literally dropped straight down as soon as I dropped the loader head.

Booked in with the hydraulic boys on Thursday morning.

Park under a tree then GRCS or tie-and-drive would have been my approach to lift the bed. Does sound hydraulic rather than electric. Filter if not pump. 
 

P.S. Aware late but worth registering as a guess.

Late to the party as usual.

How does it sound?

If the motor sounds like it's spinning as normal then I'd have a guess at pump seals but if the motor sounds sluggish or rough then it may be the brushes,(can go slowly) the winding within the motor itself, or a cracked/corroded wire (usually either works or doesnt) 

That would be my logic anyhow. I have been known to be wrong, many times.

 

Hopefully it's nothing expensive and you're up and running again soon. 

Lettuce know what the fault was, always good to have these issues aired. Makes troubleshooting that bit easier for the rest of us!

It’s an old workhorse mate, that in 106,0000 miles has tipped many, many totally illegal loads.

 

Of course i’ll update, good or bad.

My 2002 did this. I didn’t bother looking into it , I fitted a whole new pump unit from flowfit and carried on. Was about £150 plus the oil at the time.

To discount electrics first measure battery voltage should be above 12.4v with no load.

Is there any audiable difference with engine runnjng and not running, for the pump sound?with engine running it should be getting a couple volts and a reasonable amount of extra power to the pump.

 

If electrics are good and the ram is not visibly leaking I would suspect the pump seals, or possibly one illegal load to many has caused a pressure relief valve to stick open. A pressure gauge before the ram will tell you everything else and will be a lot cheaper than a shop.

 

If you do anythjng youself, cleanlyness is important for hydrualics.

If its been getting worse over time then its got to be a pump or solenoid issue. If it just stops working one day and all was fine before hand then its probably an electrical fault.
