I have just returned my 70 plate Ranger Limited auto after a year of torment, 18k on the clock. It’s been back the the dealer around 4 times with varying issues which I believe surround the auto box - problems ranging from painfully slow gear selection (hugely problematic when you pull away, or do a lot of backing into drives etc) to the diabolical fuel economy. The truck comes with a ‘Ford Pass’ app to keep track of this, and returns around 13-16mpg - based on my bank account I have to reason to doubt this. It’s the 2.0L Bi Turbo which simply isn’t up to the job. I know others with 3.2 engine who love theirs and have no problems. They look cool though.

Weirdly I actually tried this on a job a couple of months ago, killer drag and thought it would be worth looking at playing around a bit. I made a chip box for a jcb hi lift dumper, which worked really well - just that when it was to be tipped into the truck it obviously only went to the rear of the load bed, so had to be shifted anyway when it was full at the back. I ended up using it to just drag out big piles of brash, which it did a good job of; particularly as you could lift the dumper so the butt end of the pile didn’t plough up the lawn.

What are flowers like? Possibly Jacaranda (Fern Tree)

If you’re doing even occasional light arb work that back is going to need attention. If it was a couple of grand it might be worth a punt and make changes to it accordingly - but £6k (assuming it’s around the eBay price) is a lot of money for that.

I am thinking of making this exact machine change - do you miss the extra power of the 450? Or just happy that it’s easier on the body!

I have the GAP spec and was £2500 all in, well pleased with it.

I’m limited and set up thus way and just got a mortgage in the last few years. We needed to show SA302 (final personal tax return) that shows all earnings, base salary and dividend so wasn’t an issue. Only thing is we needed to show the last two years worth, as opposed to one of the guys who works for me who was good to go with his deposit and three months payslips!

I’ve been using it since last September. Pros- Hard wearing Knots well Runs great on ZigZag Good value Cons- Perhaps a bit thin Bit too bouncy on bigger stuff Quite juddery in the wet I’ve got that and Black Widow, which I prefer

I threw a fair bit of money and more importantly time at my Honda before replacing it with a Loncin 15hp. Put the best oil I could in it from the get go and fully expected to buy a new one a year later. 2 1/2 years and still going strong, it’s also very much the sacrificial grinder!!

Pretty gutless as others have said, rust on the sills and wheel arches to keep an eye on. Cheap parts, super reliable, love ‘em
