Tracked Barrows - Anyone use one? Downfalls? Benefits?

Hi All,

I was looking to invest in one to help move logs around rather than barrow.

Hoping they would be easier on the ground (clay, currently wet) and make larger loads possible.

In addition I was hoping it'd load into the back of a pickup and help with same. Movement of logs/cord over soft ground.

Are there any pointers / pitfalls I should look out for?  Hydr vs manual tip.  Flat-bed vs Bucket

Anyone have a similar situation?

Cheers Bob

I remember @Haironyourchest had an extensive thread on this topic.

I would say muck truck is more useful than track barrow (I have both), you can turn on grass without ripping it up or putting boards down. Tends to be faster too.

Tracks are more useful when the ground is already chruned up, or in a woodland.

When I bought the muck truck max they were only 1600+vat new - they'll be more now, but ask round a couple of dealers.

The amount of stuff that muck truck has shifted is unreal, and it's still good as new

If Bob on the Sussex/Surrey border decides he's interested in a muck truck rather than a tracked dumper, I have one on the Sussex/Surrey border that I'd let go to a good price to a fellow member. Flatbed, skip extensions, turf tyres and dual wheels

PM me Bob!

I've had a tracked barrow for 13 years now, mine's a Winget TD500, with a little petrol Honda engine. It's slow, but it'll go anywhere, up and down any slope. Straight down that is, try and go and sideways and you'll tip it over. I have.

I bought mine second hand from an auction place in 2011. I think it was ex hire. It's still running fine; there's not much to go wrong on them.

It's good for moving logs, but you still have to lift the logs into the barrow, and most likely out of the barrow, even though mine is the tipping type (not high lift), unless you have loads of space and it doesn't matter if the logs are spread all over the place. It's also good for moving all sorts of other stuff.

This is why I have bought a Sherpa mini loader; to stop me having to lift stuff.
