Current range of tracked chippers

Does anyone have any good or bad words to say on any of the current offerings of tracked chippers? Will be looking to trade in my current 6” road tow for a 6”-8” tracked.

Bigger is always better as they don't require you to move them. 

Jenson 540t old but gold their pivoting geared  rollers are good on big and little as well as nasty forks 

 

Greenmech 165 evo. The chute folds down nicely. Chips like it's a bigger chipper than it is. Well built.

 

Greenmech 205 Evo. Big opening good feed speed. My favourite of the bunch. Bit thirsty. 

 

Timberwolf 280 is quick on the track faster than the rest and chips much better than the smaller wolfs.

 

Not had much to do with the variable with track TW.

I really like the Greenmech would be worth a demo or hire if you haven't experienced the Evo chipper.

mostly seem to have a higher feed chute than a towbehind. means lifting branches higher to load in.

Do you need a tracked chipper. I was going to buy one a few years ago but decided to buy small loader to tow chipper into job, also moves a lot of timber in no time to chipper,

I have had a couple over the years. 
Unless you really need one, a road tow and loader is a much better combo.

Certainly get an EVO 205 GreenMech on demo. Kubota power. Good infeed and throughput.

We currently have two road tow 6” chippers and a multione 6.3 which has been alright. Have had moment where we have been towing the chipper into site and the multione has got stuck so hasn’t been the ideal solution. We got a fair bit of working starting next year which will involve getting into the middle of the woods so I don’t think the road tow + m1 option would be the best. 
Looking at getting rid of one of the road tows to replace with a tracked 6-8” chipper. And the replacing the other road tow unit with a newer one.

That is were tracked machine comes into it own. But why in a wood do you need to chip stuff just leave in habitat piles. 

But if you need one go big.

Would definitely go 8” and get a winch fitted , I know jenson offer a hydraulic winch which is ideal as it can be used through out the day where as electric is limited to a few pulls but means you can recover your self in woodlands or winch yourself off the ground to get the track back on if you have anchors around you. 

I run a tracked Schliesing 235mx and would not look at anything else but maybe the jenson. 
I was working along side a tracked 280 the other day and it did the job but still felt like a tw … had a top speed of around 20mph as well😂 dunno if I would trust any lads with it in the woods , slow and steady wins the race !

Since getting a tracked 8” the road tow has sat in the shed and not been used.. but we very rarely do any domestic work and the tracked comes in to it own for every thing we do I’ve found , even if we did a domestic job I’d rather have a 8” tracked than a 6” road tow for through put alone.
