You will have to get an old discovery or range rover from the mid to late 90s in order to get the 4000kg model. Not many around

So yours has defender running gear ??

All early Discovery's and most classic range rover use the same kit as defender if they are manually gearboxes. Axles etc brakes etc

Easy to get a trailer rated to 4000kg gross weight.

 

There are 12 models produced by land rover upto 1998 that have a 4000kg towing capacity

As an option on my wishlist, I suggested the two seat Commercial Ineos Grenadier, expensive but it has a 5 year, unlimited mileage warranty. Just been informed that it isn't Taco ready and Ineos say that if we find a workaround, it will void the warranty! So that is straight off the list! 

 

Great for towing on and off site, shame about the need for a tacho... I'm sure with enough interest INEOS will find a workaround for that, they are receptive to customer requests. Here's mine towing the 2.7t Bob onto a soggy field. Absolutely love it!

Hey presto! 4000kg trailer.

I tried that once not with a digger but a load of granite chips on a 16ft tru axle behind a patrol. The feeling of dread as I was escorted to a weighbridge knowing I was over wasn’t very pleasant.

Explain how to get a trailer rated to 4000kg without going the tacho and possibly o licence route, or exceeding the totall mass limits etc. That useless pick up of mine seems to do just fine towing a variety of trailers and has done since it left the dealers forecourt. The mill is bang on the legal limit. I’ve spent plenty of time behind the wheel of Solihull’s products in a  variety of countries. I was stupid enough to buy an ex welsh water 110 hardtop  once too in civvy street 😞 I soon realised the error of my ways.

It has out lasted Navara, rodeo,dmax,ranger and Hilux by far which all have had complex problems.

It's simple , strong and above all ultimately cheap to run. Alongside the 4000kg towing capacity it's great off road.

It just can't be beaten for work by anything double cab at all, I've tried.

 

But overrun brakes max out at 3500Kg, in so far as I know, and I also understand, that therefore over 3500Kg one needs air brakes, which sounds like an expensive  additional cost to the towing vehicle(I doubt they were supplied c/w air brakes, as standard, and if so, at what cost?) plus the additional cost of the compatible air braked trailer.

I longingly looked at and researched   8250 Kg GTW Iveco 5th wheel combos to max out trailer weights for us oldies with the grandfathered "blue" car licence entitlements.

But could not get Council managers to bite.

Too different.

Sigh.
