More doom and gloom

Recommended Posts

We were very close to getting a deposit return scheme in Scotland, supermarkets had built extra covered areas, started putting machines in etc.

For me it would be a pain. As it is currently, you put your plastic bottles and drinks cans in your recycling wheelie bin and it is collected from your house. Glass you take to bottle banks which are in every village.

Instead, you will get charged more for the item in the first place, and have to carry it all the way back to a supermarket, que up and fiddle about with a giant vending machine that will probably be as reliable as a self service checkout. So recycling would be more work than it is now.

I do worry that it'll reduce enthusiasm for recycling among the people who've been doing it for decades, without encouraging the people who just bin it all or throw it in a hedge to come to the fold.

Still, let's give it a go, see what happens.

Most of your plastic recycling isn't recycled, it gets separated but then incenerated.

There's a few old documentaries about how it came into being.

Sweden at one point was importing ship loads for use in district heating, chopped up car tyres get used in cement production as it's almost as energy dense as crude oil and they get paid to take the tyres.

Yep.

Better than being burned in people's stoves at home, better than being buried in a hedge.

Not as good as being sealed into an coal mine to take it out of circulation and limit the microplastic pollution, but it's one of the least worst options available to us.

There are often no easy answers, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Plastic = Oil = Incineration = Energy = Less imported gas.

Incinerate not bury and reopen the old dumps, sort through the trash and keep burning as they've shown several times these old dumps don't actually compost and the trash just festers releasing more chemical pollution.

Whilst also allowing more metal recovery.

Yep, I agree.

Also, switch to solar, wind, and nuclear, and cut down on your energy usage.

Also eat the rich.

Nuclear, fill you're boots we've got 140 Tons of plutonium to burn though.

Home grid connected solar yes, but only wind out at sea with ZERO subsidy.

If you can't make it profitable, I'm not paying for you to build it and sell it off to a bunch of Ottawa teachers.

There you go with that dinosaur vocab again. Not everything has to make a profit.

So with this excellent work ethic, how do you expect to live ?.

It's not dinosaur to at the very least break even after paying your bills, staff, repairs and maybe have a little left over to fund further expansion.
