Talking of patina.

I found this at at dale recently. It's in great condition, very little fettling required. The handle appears to be completely sound, though it looks like someone may have gone over the top with the wedging.

The japanese have an odd way of wedging there axes im  not sure whatt the thinking is maybe having the wedge  left sticking out means you can wack it in more if it comes loose??

Thanks. I've not tried it out yet, but I was thinking to myself exactly the same re. ankles. I've got some sections of split Ash that I want to flatten and true, (to an extent), with it. To make a Shave Horse.

Ive made a few rustic shave horses  same  basic design as in this pic..

 

Veritas Traditional English Shaving Horse Plan

 

Didn't have any plans I just copied from seeing others and from pictures.

 

 

The seat in this deign needs to be  chunky - enough to take the middle  wooden spindle (i used hazel rods for all dowls ans the legs ) - and make sure back legs splay out enough for stability.

 

Other measurements  I sized to suit me  such as the legs height from the ground and seat total length.
