Poplar Timber?

Recommended Posts

I have a small quantity (maybe max 150 tonnes) of very straight and clean poplar timber. As far as I know, it's either firewood or kindling. Bigger logs only fetch £70/t delivered (best offer so far) so just as well firewood it right? But then it's about the worst firewood going? None of it is much bigger than 16".

I buy decent poplar logs for milling.  I will pay probably £75 per ton delivered.  I am South east wales, so if you are near me give me a shout!

Surprised that Poplar is not been exploited in England

- packaging for food, disposable forks/spoons, etc. You see it in chip shops and on posh food packaging,  but whether this is grown and manufactured i mainland Europe.  I think the market will take off in the next decade. The best answer to replacing plastic packaging, etc. Lightweight, non-toxic... It's a traditional use. We're a bit slow in the UK...

Some select few are still making things out of poplar for the food industry, it seems the containerised days are long gone where it was being felled and shipped abroad but throughout this it’s still going out in 8’ pallet and clean 12s, last job I was on was on a water meadow and moving large pieces proved problematic with the machines.

I don’t know if they replanted as the original plan was for the trees to stabilise the ground but with them gone who knows what may happen
