Moving rope system chokes itself?!

Hi,

when I started treeclimbing this year, I used SRT with a rope wrench.


Now I got a new rope, a hitch climber, hitch cord and 2 carabiners as a moving rope system.



I tried it yesterday, but being like 20-25 m up in the tree, the end of the rope (Atrax) is so heavy, it chokes my system automatically. I just want to have some slack. I hope you know what I mean...

I'm happy which my Michoacan hitch: I like that it's easy to operate but unfortunately it's also influenced by 20+ m of rope underneath, while barely rope above it...

Not sure I'm understanding either but I think it's self tending too efficiently, with the weight of 20m of rope below any slack just runs through?

If so as Mark said just load the hitch a little to get it to bite.

Climb an Abies, self tending wont be a problem then.

I can’t load the video but some people search for years to find a hitch knot that self tends, give up and buy a zig zag or similar Congratulations you have managed it on your first attempt 🥳

When you pull the tail the hitch hits the pulley, collapses, and the system moves up. That’s what’s meant to happen.

On the video, i could not get it to work, but when i went on the little line thing at the bottom and dragged it along a bit, off it went!!

I’ve only got 3G at the moment, one of the local masts is down.

I have not got one of them mobile phone things so mine is virgin cable so i suppose that is what makes the difference??
