I think the whole point is that they won't become a smoker.

I'm a smoker (on and off) and I think it's a good idea.

Although it will be a laugh in 66 years time when you have to show proof that you are 80 years old to buy a 20 pack of regal. :)

Yes. Obviously that is the aim , but I doubt if this will achieve it.

Ban it entirely or don't,  except the tax on tobacco is something ridiculous and a good earner for HMRC.

Wouldn't the taxes gained be outweighed by the cost to NHS in smoking related illnesses? Genuine question- I'd love to see a cost analysis. I pro anything that discourages any form of smoking/vaping, can't fathom why you'd want to do it or subject yourself to another level of unnecessary risk to health, but then I like a drink here and there so who am I to point the finger😂

Election coming up? Launch a load of policies which sound great, grab headlines, and get loyal party supporters all excited.

After election, bin the ones which aren't practical.

No chance of any government being in power long enough to carry this through.

That would work if the gov allocated funding that way, but then smokers/ drinkers should be getting the best treatment by your logic. Instead they waste money left right and center whilst looking after themselves.

It will work, not 100% but it will make a difference.

What do you think the negative impact is?

Call me a cynic but it hasn't stopped people from doing weed, coke or worse.

It would genuinely be better to make everything legal. That way its controlled, taxable and you don't get shit laced with the stuff that can actually kill you. I don't think they're would be a significant rise in usage.

Atm it is legal to buy tobacco and alcohol. There is still a huge market for counterfeit and shit laced products though.

Come on, if they made weed legal you know there would be way more people smoking it, same for snorting coke.

Public health improved a lot when they raised the age of smoking and when they banned it in indoor places, it's just the next step.

Rushi Sunak is still a cock though.
