Chain Oil

Ahh, I should have been a bit clearer - not the amount per charge but in total over time, are you going to be using this saw daily until the motor gives out or use it a couple of times a year to prune the trees in the garden. Every day use and I can understand wanting to reduce costs but once every so often then buying a new litre or 2 of oil will be a rare thing

I got a very small bottle of oil with my DUC254 which confused me at the time, seems like it was chain oil like in the DUC101 picture.

I've always used Stihl Synthplus in my DUC254 though, has been fine - it's not viscous and sticky like old school chain oil so I'd give that a go.

I have a 36v DUC makita, and have had no problems whatsoever with Synthplus. I'm led to believe that it thickens up with agitation. ( There's a word for that, I've seen someone use it on here ). It certainly pours much more nicely than the stuff we used to get years ago that seemed to be like glue!

rheopexy?  I am not sure of the advantage as it would make pumping harder. I too would thin, maybe hydraulic oil rather than diesel.

My understanding is that it's the agitation of the chain that does it, not the pump. My son uses Synthplus as well, his boss prefers something else. As far as I'm concerned, it works in every saw I own, so " if it ain't broke, don't fix it". 😂
