I presume you have been feeding him ? He will need to learn to fend for himself but how you go about this I'm not sure . If it was here I would take him to " Brent Lodge " bird sanctuary . There may be something similar  near you ?

He’s feeding well by himself (ish).  & water..  he’s getting spoiled with all critters & loves beef paist ….  I’ve contacted a few rescue centre unfortunately with no succession..  I’ll be keeping him a while longer…. I’m sure when he wants to go.  He will go…

It does pose a good question regarding it's eventual release back into the wild and if it has the feeding habits to survive.

 

As a Cuckoo lays in other nests, so maybe it's feeding habits are more biologically preprogrammed.
