Send less people to jail.

We could try better education and more 'draconian' punishments as kids. That might instill some respect for other people's property and the rule of law again. Thus preventing some crime in the first instance.

I doubt that they could build enough prisons by July so what not have a bit of a cull. Bring back hanging for murders and pedophiles to make a bit of room and cell sharing for people traffickers and illegal immigrants. 

 

I don't know what the answer really is but if we are running out of space to house criminals then it's a really very sad state of affairs.

Figuring out why there are so many criminals in the first place and addressing that would help. I reckon giving teachers some of their rights to discipline kids would be a start. 

Another problem with prisons is once in there they learn new tricks and can be even more of a nuisance when they come out, it certainly has no effect on reforming the convicted. Simply building more prisons does sod all towards fixing the problem.

Indeed, many are reoffenders, so 23 hour bang up doesn’t work. If there was enough prison staff to try to rehabilitate these folk perhaps things might change? That doesn’t change the fact that our prisons are at bursting point. What should be done in the short term to resolve the problem?
