Anyone use a treepedo ?

Why would you be wanting to climb a dead tree of which the top 30' could be snapped off with a throwline.

 

I was trying to isolate a tip for a bull rope to do a pull down. Throwbag got stuck and then snapped the top out got lucky because the string bag and all sort of set up a slack vertical speed line. One the hardest jobs I ever had trying to do everything from the ground and save a few bucks. no room for cranes or bucket truck and try to stay away from rentals. I had 6 more to do all the same way and each one getting closer to the the house. That was the job that planted the treepedo seed.

i know thomas was at the Arb fair with it last year as i was looking at it and remember thinking not very practical for british gardens apart from footballers and millionaires gardens of about fifty acres with no greenhouses or windows within twenty feet of the tree.

I hear what your saying, but to be honest for many of us who have been in the industry for a long time or leaned from old timers, the throw bag is the up to date tool, we used to use lumps of metal.

 

I made my first throw weight from a short piece of tube (from an old farm gate) and filled it with molten lead and put a wire loop sticking out to tie the line on. (I made it on site when burning brash)

 

A guy I climbed for had a large bolt from a "D" shackle as a weight.

 

These metal weights worked well, but where inherently dangerous and when I got my first throw bag it was so much safer.

 

The treepedo with the foam sleeve is safer than a throw bag. We will be updating the web site in the next week or two. So you can have another look.

We found a treepedo lurking around some potted up sapplings in the yard, so we knocked on all the neighbours doors telling them exactly what they were living next to. An angry mob soon assembled...............

 

Hangings not good enough for them........
