Stolen trees

Not a lot I can do about this I know but it's on the increase.

I felled some lovely big sweet chestnut 26"+ diameter a few wks back with the intention to haul them out this wk only to find some thieving git had broken down the access barriers to the woodland and had it away with trees.

 

Local plod have been informed but as you'd expect, they're not interested in stolen equipment they're certainly aren't going to care about whole trees.

Not sure how you could even prove ownership of a nicked tree.

Frustrating.  And what is the bet they just ringed it up for firewood?  And the final irony will be that they won’t dry it properly and will moan that it isn’t burning very well.

It's always the same if you want to get rid of some wood no one wants it, but just  leave some tucked away half hidden and it goes missing.

Any properties on the nearby access roads got ring camera or cctv? Must have been a large vehicle to move it all?

It is a crime often featured on the evening news here in France.

From absent owners whose forests are pillaged by organised crime using all the big boys toys to the small time firewood poacher cutting without permission.

Update on this, having had a proper walk round the woodland today I've found that every fallen tree be it previously felled or storm damaged and still connected to its root-plate has been taken.

That's 25 timber trees in total ranging from 14" diameter to 30" and mostly 40-50' long.

Looking at the saw dust they took them out in 5' lengths judging by the tracks they used some sort of bobcat or similar.
