I didnt mean it taking the p**s, just that i was surprised how much the wood sitting in the groove holds the tree onto the hinge.

 

No I meant good idea, I mean if I try it on a really heavy big sycamore leaner and it works, I would be confident using it more often on not so heavy brittle wood leaners such as syc :thumbup1:

Felling a 2ft DBH syc today, little bit of side lean but nothing to worry about, I knew it would go 45 degrees off to the side when the hinge broke.

 

Put the gob in, bored in then released and it just fell over 90 degrees to the hinge :confused1:

 

Hinge was deantastic, wood was good, no explanation ??

 

Luckily it rolled down the trees to the side which were to be felled and laid gracefully down with the tips brushing against a half built garage wall :001_rolleyes:

 

Brittle at this time of the year maybe.

 

On side leaners I always have a thicker hinge at one end, the end you hope it goes towards:001_smile: can go quite thin on the opposite side, syc is snappy though.

 

As Mozza says if nothing got damaged it went according to plan. :thumbup1:
