Yell advertising , is it worth it ?

I suppose you could give Yell a 2 or 3 month trial and see if it pays off, so long as you aren't committed to a 1 yr+ contract. Long term I would look at other ways of promotion.

£250 a month is fk all money for advertising that works, and I say that as someone who spends zero.

 

Yell, however, are a total utter ripoff. The way it works is this:

 

1. They promise you the earth, over the phone.

2. If you believe them, you sign their contract.

3. This contract doesn't actually guarantee results.

4. However, it does tie you in for a long period.

5. You try to cancel, then come back here complaining when they tell you that as a business, the sale is business to business and therefore you have no consumer rights to cancel and have to wait for whatever period is specified in the contract you signed but didn't read properly.

 

@Newtons- ignore the above at your peril.

 

 

£250 per month would get you a lot of adverts in village magazines and post offices. You know, local, targeted advertising. Middle class and wealthy homeowners read a village magazine, not Sharon from the council estate who wants a price to remove a tiny apple tree in the middle of a dogshit maze. Sharon, however, has heard of Yell and Bark....

Ask yourself how often you use Yell. Personally the only time I would maybe use it would be if I carried out a google search for a specific company and their listing showed at the top. If I carried out a generic search and Yell was in the top position I simply skip past it. Of course I can only speak for my own browsing habits.

 

Personally i'd pass on it and focus on a wider link building strategy to your website as well as focusing on organic traffic through improving your websites content.

You say you’re new, my advice would be to decline ALL advertising from those who ring you.
 

think about how you search for a tradesman, how your parents do, your friends, then YOU contact that advertising outlet. Telesales are sneaky slimey parasites that are very good at being your best friend on the phone

Stay well away.

 

Promise everything, deliver nothing, but it's your fault for not spending enough money with them.

 

Over the term of my year contract can you fathom a guess for my ROI?

it ryhmes with 'hero'

 

even then it was as difficult as they could make it to cancel.

It does sound too good to be true for me I am/was thinking about doing this after a few months being up and running but I feel like it isn’t worth the while , , , it is stated that I will be one in the top five profiles for the 12 month period and that’s part of the reason it’s a 12 month contract, to stop companies outbidding my position.  The big thing that is attracting is the 450+ traffic yell gets a month for the areas I’m working in , and if I’m 1-5 in the top (as long as I’m producing a high standard) sound like a good gamble. 50/50 at the moment

Like I’ve said I’m a newly start up company( after being in this industry for 8+ years)

I’ve just had a website created, that I feel is to a high standard, and now I’m ready to start receiving traffic, the only way I can think of is advertising heavily to start some kind of job flow, I’m currently a team leader and would like to say I’m comfortable in quoting, customers and have a high standard of work.
Now I think all I need is the customers to get this whole thing rolling. Advertising I feel is my best bet and I’m just exploring my options
