Boat prices are mad atm, I looked at one last week with a good survey from last year, £79k, it’s 19 years old but was gutted and refitted two years ago. That’s with no mooring. There are folk buying second hand wide beams off the river Cam and having them craned out and transported closer to London who are paying £150-200k for the pleasure, then paying £10-20k/year for a long term, not residential mooring.

Thought it would be something like that, I had a mate on the cam who sold his boat and went to a house was surprised like.

There is a one bed fully modernised flat with a small garden in the village I’m in at the moment for similar money to a 19 year old boat and I’d own it, and the land it stands in, there is a flying freehold on it which I’m looking into,

At the end of the day the bricks and mortar is always going to be a better bet in the long run.  Financially I mean.

I don’t envy people looking to get on the property ladder these days. It’s the one thing I think is really too expensive.

The only reason I can buy is because I’ve got the money from my last house, oh and I moved 200 miles north.

The flying freehold is the only slight niggle atm.

Would a indemnity insurance not cover you on this during initial purchase with searches / fees etc that solicitors sort?

I’ve got an appointment with the solicitor tomorrow, when I spoke to him on the phone he said it’s just about who is responsible for what, and then went on and on until I was giving up the will to live. Seriously, it’s 3m2 that encroaches over an alleyway that has shared access.

I’d of thought that would be easier to sort than if it was above someones living quarters, theres minimal risk of anything happening / going wrong if its above an alley way. Good luck with it 👍

I was down on the local canal today eggs couple of narrow boats for sale around the 30K mark thought they would be a lot more than that.
