Morning all,

My old man's after a splitting axe and he has a Norwegian book and wants an oyo splitting axe - as photo shows. I've tried to find it, but to no avail. Anyone know if these are not available in UK or discontinued? Thanks in advance.

Having not heard of it I can't say if it's good. It might be, although I'd have expected to have heard of it if it were.

As Dan says, grunfors is excellent and hipster enough for most.  Or if looks and brand are less important then fiskars or husqvarna are well liked   any axe in use needs to be suited to the wood, and the axe person, to be really good.

I believe Øyo is a relatively cheap and massed produced brand you find in such stores as XXL in Norway. I have their Viking Axe as I like the look of it and its supposedly a reproduction of one found in a Burial Mound but the workmanship is trash.

As others have mentioned get a Gransfors Bruk, far better quality and can be found in the UK. Or if asthetics in not your main concern then get a Fiskars.

Does your experiance of Øyo products span the width of the single example you bought at a high street Sports shop Andy?

These are good value. I have used one of these and rate it. Decent long handle and a good weight to the head.

I know one of the family who makes these. If I can help your dad get one just ask.
