Well……

Bought a canal boat to live on.

Needed logs for wood burner.

Bought a cheapo chainsaw.

Was hooked !
Packed up doing Support Work ( with people with learning disabilities. )

Transitioned m/f (age51) and then did CS30/31/38/39 the following year……

Self employed , just doing small stuff .
But utterly love working with trees ! Now 61……

Ha funny old story, so i was working part time as a greenkeepers apprentice on a 9 hole pitch and putt, went for a beer after my £30 for 8 hours shift on a sunday and met a stocky welshman.

Anyway, the guy was a bus of banter and we had about 8 beers and i pulled out my tobacco at one point and he went "ah you passed the first interview test! You smoke rollies, can i have one?" (It wasnt an interview) so i said sure as long as you can roll and gave him my baccy. Next thing you know, ive struggled along as a tree surgeon for 11 years.

Got a phone call from a mate who worked as an Arborist after the 1987 storms we had, got minimal training with a chainsaw but it was good money for the time and done it ever since, passed my exams many years ago but was studying Engineering at the time in college so did them both. Now days it is mostly Stump Grinding and general tree maintenance.
