Hobby saw for firewood

Quite a few times people have asked me to recommend  a saw which I usually do ....for whatever suits their application .... then they completely ignore my advice and get some horrible cheap nasty chinese shit because " its a no brainer aint it "  £90 "cant go wrong with that "  ... inevitably they find it does not last .....or worse still ask if i can have a look at it as it is not running quite right ....can you guess my response ????😄

There was someone on here this morning asking for a guide price for a 109 Dolmar.

 

It'll be a superior saw in pretty much every way to anything you'll buy new for £200, or even more.

 when i started i bought a cheep 45cc gardenline from aldi for £90 the pizza parlor next to me bought it off me 3 months ago to cut wood for his oven he has used it regular and its still going strong .

Cant go wrong I think but that's just me .... For that price anyway

My brother purchased one and think it had a 16" 1.6mm chain and it was super boggy and slow......you needed a calendar to time a cut!  1.3mm and preferably semi chisel 14"  bar would be my choice and don't know what they come fitted with but this is my opinion on cutting gear.

Plus 1 for the Makita 4300. It’s a cracking wee saw for Firewood.

It should be a 1.1mm on the 171. 

 

If it's stihl, Husqvarna, echo or Makita at least you can get spares and you should have a dealer within a reasonable distance from you. 

 

Don't bother going down the screwfix, B and q or Chinese ebay route as it just adds to the plastic mountain of waste when something simple like an oil pump worm wheel fails, unless your willing to source the parts and repair it yourself.

The ms180 comes with either 12" or 14" bar with picco chain
