My parents are victims of cowboy tree surgeons who are now blaming my mother.

I don’t think so.

The ‘cowboy tree surgeon’ seems a bit harsh.

I see. Well what about them blaming my mother for causing the roots to grow out? Roots grow to look for water, but they are blaming my mum, saying she watered the tree and that's why it grew roots.

I would just cover it over with soil and forget about it. Cherrys can sucker, you might get shoots growing from the roots or stump but just keep cutting them down or you could buy some round up to kill it off.

The roots won't grow if there isn't any foliage.

So their malicious behaviour is worse than I thought. They are claiming it is still growing when it isn't? Are you sure the tree is dead? Because there are leaves and such sprouting from parts of the roots that have grown across the garden.

But it is still sprouting roots, that's the whole reason they are blaming my mother.

If you passed high school biology I’d hope you would know that roots grow underground. How do you know they are still growing? Are you a mole?

The ‘cowboy tree surgeon’ label seems a bit harsh.

That being said, it also seems unreasonable to point the finger at your mother for simply watering her plants.

As has been said, depending on the species, it should be pretty buggered by now.

Right I mean it doesn't make sense how that could cause the tree to grow. If I paid for a second opinion from a different tree surgeon, would they be able to call BS on what these guys said?

Technically as tenants it's not our responsibility, but these guys are trying to swindle the landlord and using my mum as the scapegoat. So if the landlord thinks it's our fault, they might not renew our contract.

First of all. No a cherry tree won’t continue to grow once you cut it down to that level unless it’s magic. I am struggling to understand the argument here. The chaps who cut it down are now saying it’s coming back and the roots are a problem for an neighbours house? Why wound the company who cut it down now turn round and say it’s not enough?
