The building trade didn’t deal with hidden employment the cscs card is a skill card builders just found ways round it and the hmrc let them get away with it

Mick means CIS, 20% at source. No getting around it.

What’s the thing where they’ll deduct 20% off your invoice on work done on a building site unless you have it?

Edit. Eggs just answered it.

The 20% is only for people who have not paid tax etc keep nose clean and get paid gross

CIS is for everyone if the employing company are part of the scheme, you take the job knowing you'll be stopped 20% or you don't get a start. My understanding is, subbies were being paid but not paying their tax so HMRC started chasing main contractors for subbies cotrabutions.

I’m a subbie you pay me gross no deductions, main contractors check with hmrc as to wether you get deductions or not keep up with your tax pay on time good books = no 20 % paid invoices in full
