What’s the thing where they’ll deduct 20% off your invoice on work done on a building site unless you have it?

They’ve also done it with VAT in construction now too - stops firms going bust at the end of a big project after having all their invoices including the vat paid to them and obviously not then paying it to the gov.

They still get around it 20 of your invoice is just a savings scheme

They use labour supply companies so as not to employ direct then switch between companies to get around the time element

But the temping agencies pay the NI, holiday pay etc. or not?

Not agency just company doing books swap payment between different companies so as not to work for same company through out year

CIS is for everyone if the employing company are part of the scheme, you take the job knowing you'll be stopped 20% or you don't get a start. My understanding is, subbies were being paid but not paying their tax so HMRC started chasing main contractors for subbies cotrabutions.

I’m a subbie you pay me gross no deductions, main contractors check with hmrc as to wether you get deductions or not keep up with your tax pay on time good books = no 20 % paid invoices in full
