Not had proper rainfall for a while. Thanks both, I did leave a sprinkler on it for half hour on Tuesday but will do again for longer and see if it improves.

Can't see the base, but cover the grass out to the drip line with a doughnut of brown cardboard, then mushroom compost or seaweed, then rotted woodchip. Give the soil some nutrients.

I take it that is a whitebeam? Topped some years back?

 

I'd say those yellow leaf veins and the fact it has tried to set fruit and then wilted point to something more serious than drought.

Dot worry about the sprinkler just let the hose run

You’ll lose a lot of water like that, better to have a very slow/trickle so the water stays in the soil around the tree.

Or sink a piece of pipe vertically with the least amount of disturbance to roots as possible, then water down pipe to roots, less evaporation that way.
