Laurel – Love the smell, but is it really bad for you?

Spent the last few days taking down and chipping some large Laurel hedges in one of our parks, hard work, but strangely satisfying!

 

Are the fumes really bad for you or is it an urban myth? I’d love to know for sure.

A news paper article a few years ago wrote about this . A guy cut down some laurels and packed them in his car . Left them over the weekend . Went to go to the LA tip and didnt make it . Enclosed enviroment ?

I once trimmed a long laurel hedge, reaching the tops from the back of the truck, standing on piles of Laurel. By the end of the day i was felling sick with a banging headache. It disappeared in the evening but first thing in the morning after getting back into the back of the truck it came straight back.

Not recommended.

Think your ok in the fresh air,I wouldnt burn the stuff though.

I prune them regularly, never have any trouble with them, but I was told that they release cyanide when you burn them.
