Lads, stop fighting serious news just in, NATO satellite imagery shows the table is now half a mile long. Intelligence sources within the US, UK and EU fear that at its current rate of growth it will encircle the Earth by the middle of April.

It’s at the end of that table I expect to find Marks answer to if he’s pro-Russian or not.

Oh wait a minute, is that him under it right between Putins knees?🤣

This thread is pretty depressing.

A whole load of keyboard warriors arguing about something that none of us really know anything about.

Fundamentally, it comes down to one thing. Naive, misinformed young Russian men are being sent to invade a country under false pretence and a great many of them are paying with their lives. But worse than that, millions of civilians in Ukraine are being subjected to terror, displacement, injury and death for nothing more than the war games of men more powerful than them.

This whole farce is so utterly without warrant, so totally pointless and such a stain on our civilisation that I struggle to see a way out. I cannot see Putin ever backing down, and given that Ukraine and Poland in 1939 seem to have many similarities, where next?

With over 17 million square kilometres, you'd really think that Russia had enough bloody territory...

It’s not about how large Russia’s territory is and predominantly about the ever encroachment of NATO, aka the USA on Russia’s doorstep. The US would simply not stand for the reverse happening, full stop. Yet again Cuba being a case in point.

Alaska is about 50 miles from Russia.  Or about 2.5 miles if you count the Diomedes...

Is it not the case that the people of Ukraine have the right to self determination? This last month or so has done nothing but bolster the case that Ukraine wants to get as far away from Russia as is humanly possible.

I fully acknowledge that all governments have their skeletons, all have their corruption, all have their agendas. However, sending columns of war machines into cities under the pretence of expunging nazis that don't exist puts Russia in a class of it's own at the moment.

Right. And I said that Russia is being put in an ever encroaching choke hold by NATO, aka the US. Surround any world power in such a way and they’d retaliate in much the same way.

Who are the "Nazis" and what's their role in all this?  Curious to know what others think about this aspect.

Yes, I firmly agree with you that they have the right to self determination. But actively asking to join an organisation that is funded by and large by the enemies of Russia is going to provoke a response. Ukraine is in the unfortunate position where it’s simply impossible to get as far away from Russia as humanly possible. They might have swung from being Leftie Commies to full blown Right Wingers but their geological location is  obviously unmovable. Sweden and Finland made the wise choice to remain outside of NATO for this very reason. Don’t poke the Bear. It was a tactic that up til now has served them well.

Now Finland and Sweden are spooked. If they join NATO now then I fear WW3 is inevitable. The US is literally playing the board game Risk and will have Russia surrounded. A cornered animal is dangerous as it is unpredictable.
