I go between a smooth cotes du rhone or a punchy rioja myself. 
 
Have you looked into Naked Wines @Mark Bolam? You get a serious amount for your money and you directly fund indy winemakers. Pay in any amount from £20 monthly and cash in with a lovely crate or two whenever you feel like. I've just spent £260 on my Christmas order [emoji23]

I’m with them as well. I keep forgetting I am and about once a year I’ll do the same as you. Splurge on a big order. Normally heavy hitting Reds for both the missus and I.

Lidl do some stunning wines for the money. They do a good couple of bottles of Shiraz as standard & a good Rioja & Cabernet too. You need to look out for the occasional appearance of the second fleet label - the merlot & Shiraz are stunning

Jam Shed seems to go well with the Missus.  I'm a white wine person, Muscadet is good, Chardonnay too. I like red but don't digest it well.

We are the opposite, we digest most wines a bit too well

Don’t see it many places and you’ll struggle to find it below £10 I expect, but look out for refosco. It’s an Italian wine form the region my partners from. Very nice indeed.

Spanish Rioja or argy Malbec with a rare cooked steak for me... other wise I'm on any lager or IPA to quench a thirst.

My mum just picked up 3 X bottles of her favourite NZ white wine for £18 in Sainsburys. Usually about £12 a bottle!

 

I've never been a red wine man, definitely prefer white, but like Matty does I reach for a nice IPA when the time is right! Currently working my way through a mixed bag of stuff from Brewdog.
