Advise on 1st Chainsaw for home use

I've heard of cooling chain causing damage, but must admit I'm not obsessive about checking. This is from MS261 manual.

Crankshafts snapping was due to the the back of the clutch not being completely square, this in turn stopped the clutch from completely locking onto the crankshaft shoulder, on the saw over run the clutch would spin off, as the saw accelerated again the clutch spun back onto the crank with great force, this continually happened until the end of the crank snapped off, it is very unlikely a crank would bend, if enough force was exerted on the crank journal it would snap, not bend.

Afternoon folks.

 

Can I ask what the screwed on plate on the muffler is for?  Both pics are husky 135mk2, but one has holes on muffler covered, and the other doesnt.

 

Mine are covered but there is a screw to remove them.  Cant see anything in manual.

The plate was added to stop dirt/ dust Ingres into the screw heads, the securing screws are set down into the muffler, on top of the muffler should be a plate and spark arrest or over the outlet.

Absolutely you should to stop the muffler recesses filling with debris.

Ahh I see what you mean, I assumed part of the exhaust outlet, but just looked down the holes and they are sealed from the muffler, but they house the muffler screws.

 

Will leave it be.

Hello guys, bit of a follow up on things.

 

Had the saw out a few times, and have been given some pointers and tips via PM.

 

Got a few bits and bats to go with the saw for when I'm not at home.

 

Should I carry a first aid kit when out in woods? If so can someone reccomend me one please.

 

Got some log tongs on the way as advised.

 

Few pics for you guys to laugh at.......
