Hello and good morning.  I stumbled across this forum when trying to gather info on what would be a good choice for a 1st chainsaw for home use.  Its just for chopping up fire wood and small tree removal 6-8" trunk.

I have listed the ones on my shortlist, but I would really appreciate the input of the professionals on this group.

Budget is £200

Thank you for your help and advice in advance.

I would just like something that starts, cuts well and doesnt melt.  Im guessing a lot of the amazon ones are Chinese built poor quality?

Thank you for the replies guys.  I always think of Stihl as being "proper kit", remembering the old days with my uncle that had stihl cut off saws and chainsaws.  Like they lasted most of my childhood life.

Would you go for the longer 14" bar?  Im not sure on the whole bar length thing, and assumed it was to reduce kickback if cutting thicker logs?

Get a stihl 171 new, with a 2 year domestic warranty extension and run it on motomix.
A 12” bar will easily do want you need and more.
I’d get several chains and a filing kit too.
That should do you fine.[emoji106]

Until someone mentions milling….

You dont need 14 on ms 171she barely can drag that, 12 is sufficient.
