I know of (end of last century mind) of a rail gang that would hand out lines of speed to their ‘staff’ on night work.

Back then one could allegedly drive a Hilux straddling the rail  with one set in the cess and one in the four foot during a possession instead of having to tab in with all your kit, things changed.

Don’t really understand that, but I’ll take your word for it!

I know Mark, just trying to give some perspective on how things have changed.

Back then it was no names no pack drill, on site with boots and helmet and keep moving.

Joints rolled on the minibus on the way home.

Not saying there weren’t a few laughs of course.

There was one job I spent a day or two on (Polegate bypass in East Sussex) just as a man with a pair of hands, I wasn’t there on this particular day but heard about it.

They had fenced off a little pond with tape cos of newts or something.

Anyway during the day the lads had blown all the chip into the pond completely filling it up with chip.

Ecology bloke turns up to check on everything finds his pond full of 25cube of chip.

Not one fook given by anyone, nothing came of it.
