I spoke with my trailer servicing guy this morning and he has already had an increase in horse box sales enquiries. Going to be a nightmare as stated before 3.5 ton needs to be loaded correctly or you could be in a whole world of trouble .  I suppose the price of rubbish old ifors ect is going to rocket in the short term also .

We have a massive driver shortage because the Haulage companies are greedy and short sighted. They’ve had 5 years to get a plan of action in place and have been complacent.

Pay British people British wages and you’ll get Drivers. There is thousands of people with HGV licences in the U.K. that don’t wish to return to the job due to conditions and wages. But now the wages are significantly increasing due to Haulage Companies being forced to hire British people in Britain there is a resurgence in applicants and interest from those who already hold a licence.

Yes the haulage industry has had time to sort it.

weather they will get enough British is a different story, there was a massive shortage of staff when the European drivers were here.

Yeh, time will tell. The reality of it is they where/are paying about the same as someone earns in Tesco’s stacking shelves. Utterly ridiculous. Their wages need to rise to a level that’s worthwhile spending considerable time away from their families and the skill level and responsibility involved. Now that the flood gates have closed hopefully that happens. £20 an hour does not sound excessive to me.

Im hearing reports from the U.K. oil and Gas sector that people are now working for £100 a day. Imagine sacrificing your life and time away from your family for that? Joining the EU and employers access to cheap Labour has been a race to the bottom.

A job advert popped up on my Facebook page this morning £175/shift plus £25/stop out money, it's getting better.

That’s great! To me that shows the power the people can have when not competing with people who’s cost of living and house prices are vastly less than us in the U.K.

Brexits slowly but surely working. :)

Was talking to a guy who has a couple of lorries yesterday, he said the hgv test is going to be shorter and easier to pass. Anyone heard similar?

That’s the crack. They’re also omitting reversing from the hgv test. Sounds like a lot of haulage companies and insurance companies understandably want nothing to do with people who’ve been fast tracked in this manner though. You can’t have a 17 year old rushed through a test like that and now driving a 45 tonne lorry.

Sounds like it’s similar with trailers, though it might be legal to tow, when/if these new laws come into force, insurance companies will likely still insist on professional training.

Our government couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery. While it sounds great, it’s clearly a panicked decision and I’ll be amazed if any good actually comes from this.
