Are Honda HRX mowers all they are cracked up to be?

Supposedly decks are rot resistant which is something that never seems to last that well on many mowers

Honda cost a fair amount and usually for a reason. I would apply 'you get what you pay for ' in the circumstances. Look after it, wash the deck out, do not store fuel in it a d it maybecome a heirloom! List it in your will...

I got a mate who is a rep for Etesia, they have always impressed me too. Once saw an old rep put a brick end on the floor and smash it to dust. Deck survived with a few scars but it still cut. Think they were Kawasaki engines and the crank survived too! Council buy them by the dozen which is a marker on quality and strength too.

Kazz mowers are a good substitute, seem to have better gearboxes than the Honda's and a bit cheaper

Thought you had quite a bit of grass, have you looked at wider mowers, or a robot?

kaaz mowers are heavy but good 

 

blade that comes on them can break as its vented on ends but stick a high lift solid one on and they are better

 

treat engine to oil every 50 hrs and last forever

 

can loose drive to a wheel but theres a wee pin inside wheel that breaks and saves drive/more expensive bits and its beyond easy and cheap to fix

 

worst case you hole the deck get away with a wee thin steel patch pop rivited over - lasted 3 years like that so far

Etesia were shit for me. The Kaaz/Honda/Lawnflite design is pretty good- fan assisted collection and a blade brake clutch. If I were to go back to pedestrian mowing I'd have a wheeled version as my main mower.

P.S.

Thanks for the useful suggestions, the side discharge JD I bought to cut the rough grass in among the wheen o fruit bushes/trees, is driving me mad wi the swards it leaves.

So I need a bagger.
