Small planer thicknessers

Hi guys so been looking for a bargin of a 10/12 inch planner thicknesser but couldnt find a sturdy old one so rang around and ordered a fox 10 inch from Poolewood so I ask the question whats it like and they say yeah good machine so it arrives and stright away I think what the F##k so puts it together and the parallel fence is bent and moves when you are planning a small plank I will be giving Poolewood a call in the morning just wanted to let you all know not to buy a Fox planner

Shouldn,t come like that(bent) but i think its mostly hobby stuff anyway,so maybe not up to what you want

Bent is poor but dont expect much at that price.

 

My Felder fence came bent and flexes when edging boards and I dont want to think about how much it cost! If you want no flex you need industrial kit IMO

Send it back as cannot use a machine like that mark.

Yeah will be on the phone first thing it did my head in as I rang and spoke to someone who told me yeah good bit of kit but hey I spose I should have known better if anyone spots a bargain do let me know

Just the look of the pictures would put me off that. All plastic.

If you want to buy cheap then your much better off buying a surface planer and a thicknesser seperately. But if that is your budget you won't even get a reasonable second hand one

I started out with a dewalt thicknesser and a dirt cheap jointer. The fence wasn't worth using so mounted an oak one on it and it was ace. Didn't bother with tilt because if i wanted it at an angle I would use a table saw.
Still occasionally take it on site if I think I will need it but have a decent cast jointer now. Still have the dewalt as my only thicknesser, except the lucas mill planer, and I can't fault it. Bomb proof and a good finish.
Cheap modern tools are shit. Alot of the expensive ones to.
Don't phone a salesman and be surprised when they tell you what they are selling is good.

I've got a metabo one, and really like it. But the bloody safety switches are a nightmare, I've disconnected one of them, and there are at least another 2 on it. Everything else is spot on though.

Me too, a capable inbetweener, solid but portable and a good price when I got mine 👍
